Telluride, Colorado is situated in a box canyon surrounded by the San Juan Mountains and is known for its stunning natural beauty, historic architecture, and outdoor activities.
Originally a mining town in the late 1800s, Telluride is now a popular destination for tourists seeking outdoor adventure, cultural events, and a laid-back mountain vibe. The town is known for its world-class skiing, with the Telluride Ski Resort offering over 2,000 acres of skiable terrain and 148 trails for all levels of skiers.
In the summer, Telluride transforms into a haven for outdoor enthusiasts with hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and fly-fishing opportunities. The town is surrounded by over a million acres of national forest, including the Uncompahgre National Forest and the San Juan National Forest, which offer endless opportunities for exploration and adventure.
Telluride is also a hub for arts and culture, with several annual festivals and events including the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Telluride Film Festival, and Telluride Jazz Festival. The town boasts a vibrant arts community, with several galleries and performance spaces showcasing local and national artists.
Telluride is a beautiful and vibrant mountain town that offers something for everyone, from outdoor adventure to cultural events and historic charm.
There are lots of amazing locations in Telluride. Whether you want to ride the gondola or take the scenic route, there is a spot for you! Once you book your session, I will send over an exclusive location guide with all of my favorite spots I have personally scouted for light and scenery. I have locations accessible by gondola (no car needed) as well as more remote spots for those looking for an off the beaten path adventure.
You really can't go wrong in Telluride! There are pros and cons to each season though.
Summer:
This is the second most popular time of year in Telluride, so there can be a little more crowding but I know of several locations where we aren't likely to run into crowds. If you are planning to come in July, try to be flexible with a couple of dates you can have your photo session- it does rain often!
Fall:
Fall is absolutely stunning in Telluride. The leaves are spectacular and the crowds have thinned out. Some areas may not be accessible though, as the Gondola closes down on October 15th, and you'll want to be prepared for temperature drops or snow!
Winter:
Telluride is absolutely magical in the winter, but it is the busiest time of year! There are several spots that will not be accessible, but it can also be fun to have a snowshoe or ski adventure!
Spring:
This is off season in Telluride, meaning many shops and restaurants will be closed. Expect some snow and mud, but absolutely no crowds!
